Wayne Tibbetts

August 12, 1914 — March 21, 2006

Harry "Wayne" Tibbetts, the son of Harry P. and Emma (Klatt) Tibbetts, was born August 12, 1914, in rural Clay County. He spent his childhood years in rural Spencer where he attended school. Wayne married Neva Olhausen on October 22, 1940. Following their marriage, they lived in Hartley. Wayne served in the U.S. Army from December of 1942 until his honorable discharge in November of 1945. Following his discharge, they moved back to Hartley where he was a truck driver, co-owned T & T Repair and Welding from 1945-1955, drove tank wagon for C-D Farm Service until 1967 and then moved to Lincoln, NE, and worked as a Maintenance Supervisor until 1983. When he retired, they moved to Spencer and he started a 20- year career as mechanic for the Spencer ATV Corp, keeping the machines in top shape. Wayne was an active member of the Arthur W. Kirchoff Post #288 of Hartley. He was a member of Evening Shade Lodge #312, York Rite, ABU BEKR Shrine, Eastern Star Chapter #116, Loyal Order of the Moose, and a past member of the V.F.W. in Lincoln, NE. Wayne thoroughly enjoyed all of these organizations and considered them a "family of friends". Wayne passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on March 21, 2006, at St. Luke Lutheran Home at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Neva, on April 7, 2002; one grandson, Bradley Getting; and three sisters: Iva Kruse, Orma Olhausen and one in infancy. He is survived by one daughter, DyAnn and her husband, Jim Getting of Spencer, IA, and one son, Gary and his wife Gerri Tibbetts of Spirit Lake, IA; five grandchildren: Shelia (Troy) Overton, Dan (Candice) Getting, Tom Getting, Mike Getting and Melissa (Scott) Busch; 7 great-grandchildren: Trey, Triston and Saige Overton, Rachael Getting, Corbin Getting, and Rhyan and Alexander Busch, other relatives and friends.
