Walter James Schmidt

Walter James Schmidt, the son of John and Mary (Ringering) Schmidt was born March 15, 1933 in Westport township, Dickenson County IA. His childhood years were spent on the family farm. He recounted milking the cows and doing chores before school to his grandchildren. 

      Walter graduated from Okoboji Consolidated school, were he played basketball and baseball. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1956. Walter then married Lillian Ann All on May 18,1958 in Spencer IA. He worked construction with his brother A.M. Schmidt for 40+ years and then a 6 years with Clay Contractors until he retired. 

      He enjoyed traveling with Lillian, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He moved to Fort Collins CO in September 2023 to live with his daughter.

      Walter Passed away on June 3, 2024 at Medical Center of the Rockies at 91. He was preceded in death by his bride, parents and 2 brothers.  Left to cherish his memories are his children Timothy (Jan) Schmidt of Pleasanton, CA, Lois White of Fort Collins CO 4 grandchildren, Ashley (Kasia) Allison, Quintin and Simone, 2 brothers Richard (Betty) of Spencer IA, Robert (Audrey) of Hartley IA other relatives and friends.
