Spencer

Walt was born in Spirit Lake, IA on April 1, 1935 to Walter H. Beck Sr. and Arvada Beck. He graduated from Milford High School in 1953.  In 1954, Walt enlisted in the Army, serving his country in Anchorage, Alaska until his discharge in 1956.  He returned to marry Marilyn Leitch in Milford, IA on Oct 5, 1957. After moving to Spencer to start a family, Walt began his career as a mechanic for Asher Motors.  In 1976, Walt teamed up with fellow Asher Motors mechanic Don Kadous and opened their own station, Southside DX.  After 13 successful years, they sold the station.  Walt then joined Witco as a Maintenance Manager until his retirement in 1999. He passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020

Walt was a hardworking, humble, Mr. Fix-it dedicated to helping people at every turn. Whether it was keeping their cars, trucks, and factories running more effectively and efficiently or lending a hand around the neighborhood. Walt was always there for people with a quiet confidence, a dependable solution and kindhearted sense of humor.  Born on April Fool’s Day, Walt enjoyed a lighthearted laugh and a good-natured tease.  Whether dabbling in hobbies like flying remote controlled airplanes, camping with the family or building useful, ingenious contraptions from old parts that most would throw away.  Walt was a wiz at creating something to make any task easier.  He enjoyed being a go-to guy to help friends, neighbors and family with their chores and tasks.  Walt enjoyed traveling with Marilyn as well as close friends and family on short-trips. . . more for the camaraderie and company than the destination.

Walt was preceded in death by parents Walter H. Beck Sr. & Arvada Beck, his in-laws; Wilbur & Augusta Leitch and by his daughter-in-law: Sara Clarity Beck. .

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Leitch Beck, son, Scott (Mary) of Lac Du Flambeau, WI and daughter, JoLynn (Tim) Vos of Spencer, IA.  Three, grandchildren, Jessie (Jake) Seaman, Jack Beck & Joseph Beck and 3 great grandchildren. Sisters, Bonilyn (Bob) Christensen of Marshalltown, IA and Doris (Chester) Miller of Milford, IA.
