Velma Marie Hamrick

Velma Marie Flint Hamrick, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Flint, was born February 5th, 1926 in Meadow Township. Her childhood years were spent on a farm near Langdon, Iowa.  She was so excited to have a younger brother Bill.  She graduated from Spencer High School in 1943.  She loved her job at the telephone office in Spencer and she worked there until she became a farm wife.

Velma married Harley Hamrick on July 14th, 1945 in Jackson, MN.  Following their marriage, they farmed near Spencer for several years, until moving to the town of Spencer.  Until retirement, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer for 70 years.  Velma was active in the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Church Circle, and Red Hat Society.

She was an avid shopper.  She loved jewelry, and loved being pampered with getting her hair and nails done.  She loved getting spoiled and spoiling her family.  Her love was her family including her children and grandchildren.  To know her was to love her.

Velma passed away at the Northshire nursing home in Spencer, on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the age of 97.  She was preceded in death by her parents (Henry and Elizabeth Flint), her husband (Harley Hamrick), one son in infancy (Harley Jimmy Hamrick), one granddaughter (Stacie Lee Hamrick), and one brother (Bill Flint).

She is survived by one son; Art and his wife, Mary Hamrick of Spencer; three daughters and their husbands; Georgia and Harold Piercy of Spencer, Connie and Jim Manwarren of Emmetsburg, Julie and Maynard Tuttle of Spencer; eight granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren.  She was dearly loved by all her family and friends.

Funeral services will take place 2:00, Thursday, March 30, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
