Truel Durwood Bailey

   Truel Durwood Bailey the son of Edvin and Greta (Nunn) Bailey was born on October 22, 1941 in Paulina, IA. He was raised in the Peterson area and attended various schools and graduated from Sioux Valley H.S. in Sioux Rapids. During high school Truel worked at the creamery and then in 1965, he started working at the Elevator in Sutherland. He worked there for 37 years, retiring in 2003.

   On October 21, 1961, he married Darla Gottsch at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Sutherland where they raised their family. Truel was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and the Commercial Club. He was also involved in organizing Labor Day festivities through the years for the community. He enjoyed camping, classic cars, classic 50’s music and driving his convertible. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Bones.

   Truel passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at his home at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Greta; his wife, Darla; 2 brothers: Homer and Dave; one sister, Ella Strahman; 3 nephews: Jeff Strahman, Michael Pohlman and Carson Nelson.

   Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Brian (Jami) Bailey of Sutherland, IA and Greg (Janette) Bailey of Spokane, WA; 7 grandchildren; Tyler Bailey (Rachelle), Nicolas Bailey, John Haack, Seth Haack, Kaie (Courtney) Bailey, Bode Bailey and Logan Bailey. 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
