Timothy Robert Small was born on March 15, 1966, in Fairmont, MN. In September of 1973, his family moved to Spencer, IA, where Tim attended the old Lincoln Elementary School.
Tim was active in Cub Scouts. He especially enjoyed the Pinewood Derby Races held every year. As he aged into Boy Scouts, Tim really enjoyed Camp Outs with other Scout Troops at the various Boy Scout Camps.
Tim also loved to fish and could often be found with his friends and a stray dog down at the Little Sioux River, with a campfire going, makeshift poles in the river trying to catch fish to fry on top of a tin can.
While in Jr. and Sr. High Schools Tim played the trumpet in the school bands. When called on to play with the pep band Mr. Ryan said he could always tell if Tim was present or absent because of his very blond hair.
On June 4, 1988, Tim was united in marriage to Lisa Marie Nederhoff at the First Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg, IA. For 37 years they have made their home in Spencer, IA, moving to their acreage southwest of Spencer in 1988. Together they raised two beautiful children, Seth and Taylor. Tim truly loved his children and would do anything he could for them.
It was important to Tim to make sure his family was taken care of financially. Throughout his marriage he worked in various capacities. In November 18, 1994, Tim graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge and was proud to serve the Clay County Sheriff’s Department for 16 years. During his time with them he impacted the lives of many with his kind heart. Tim was especially proud to receive the Certificate of Commendation from the Governor of Iowa in 2001.
In 2007, Tim took advantage of an opportunity to become self-employed and purchased the Greenville Locker. It became his pride and joy. It also allowed him the opportunity to donate to charities. He especially enjoyed donating time to the Fall Deer Hunt for the SYC.
Tim enjoyed cooking as demonstrated by the several snaps sent to family and friends of the wonderful meals he prepared.
His passion for fishing was always present and he was more than willing to tell stories and show pictures of his fishing experiences. In April 2025, Tim and Lisa traveled to Tim’s favorite fishing destination where they both spent time fishing and creating more lasting memories.
Tim was diagnosed with Melanoma in 2020. He underwent treatment for two years and the cancer went into remission. However, the cancer returned in June of 2024 and previous treatment was not able to stop it. After a valiant battle Tim passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Tim was preceded in death by grandparents: Roy and Lorraine Rector, Ruth and Harold (Bud) Small, Henry and Anna Nederhoff and Henry and Gertrude Meyer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lisa; son, Seth (Kim) grandchildren: Addison and Rylan; daughter, Taylor; parents, Bronwyn and Gary Small; brothers: Tracy (Jen), Douglas (Michele), Ethan (Misty) and Evan (Lori); in-laws, Melvin and Lucille Nederhoff; Dan (Jill) Nederhoff, Scott (Toni) Nederhoff and Bill (Wanda) Noteboom; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a wealth of friends.
