Terry Richard Peterson

Terry Richard Peterson, the son of Glenn and Dorothy “Lucille” (Pollack) Peterson, was born September 13, 1944 in Fort Sill, OK.  His childhood years were spent in Minneapolis, MN and then Jamestown, ND, until 1^st grade when he moved to Fargo, where he received his education, graduating from Fargo High School.  He continued his education at Jamestown College, where he received his BS degree in Business Administration and later attended USD in Vermillion receiving his Master’s in Business Admin. and then attended graduate school in banking at the University of Wisconsin.  After college he returned to Omaha for 1 ½ years. 

Terry married Ruby Huston on March 6, 1970 in Spencer, IA.  After their marriage, they lived in Spencer & Ft. Dodge to take a council representative position with the Boy Scouts for 4 years.  He later worked for a recreational land management company for many years in Michigan and then Wisconsin.  His last years of work were spent at the First Bank of Grantsburg, until retiring and moving to Spencer in 2005.  Terry was a volunteer firefighter since 1980 and helped form a startup fire dept. for the township of Jackson in Wisconsin, was on the volunteer team in Grantsburg for 19 years including serving as fire chief for 3 years.  He was on the city council at Grantsburg, WI for more than 16 years.  Upon moving back to Spencer, he joined the Spencer Fire Dept. in 2007, was a member of the Daybreakers Kiwanis and enjoyed golf and woodworking after retiring.

Terry passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the age of 77.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Colleen Peterson, Maureen “Mickey” Suddeth, and Kim Dee Peterson; and his in-laws; Millard & Winifred Huston, and James Huston.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby of Spencer; one son, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Peterson of Wyoming, MN; one daughter, Ann Peterson of River Falls, WI; grandchildren, Lydia & Lucas; four brothers: Tom of New Port Richey, FL, Jan (Alison) of Potomac, MD, Todd (Carol) of Miami Lakes, FL; and Tracy (Leanne) Peterson of Blaine, MN; in-laws Gene & Mary Huston of Spencer; Shirley & Verdean Bremer of Ida Grove; John & Marilynn Huston of Naples, FL; Carol & Carl Jensen of Everly; Linda & Kieth Bress of Spencer; many nieces & nephews and other relatives and friends.
