Sylvia Marie (Erickson) Moore, daughter of Stanley and Marie (Carlsen) Erickson, was born January 15, 1938, in Estherville, IA. She grew up in the Ceylon, MN, area, graduating from Ceylon High School in 1955. She later graduated with honors from Augustana University with a degree in math and accounting.

Sylvia married Don Moore in Ceylon on June 6, 1958. After brief periods in Flandreau, SD, and Lakefield, MN, they settled in Spencer, IA, in 1963. Sylvia taught one year at Spencer Community Schools and for 25 years at the Spencer School of Business, where she pioneered the computer education program.

She enjoyed playing Bridge in many formats and loved playing games, traveling with her husband to 13 countries, wintering in Sun City, AZ, and spending time with her family. Her community service included mentoring with Clay County Pals, and many years with Federated Women’s Club and Spencer Action Club. At Bethany Lutheran Church, she was active in BLCW, Circle, Christmas at Bethany, and singing in the choir.

Sylvia passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer at age 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Mert, Sam, and Ed; her step-mother, DeEtta, and a step-brother, James Herbrandson.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband: Don; daughters: Kay (Ron) Huntimer and Eileen (Jon) Koenigsberg; six grandchildren: Angela (Brad) Van Bochove, Elizabeth (Jared) Folger, Regina (Triston) Barnett, Ian (Melanie) Koenigsberg, Niles (Isabel) Koenigsberg and Madeleine Koenigsberg; ten great-grandchildren: Tori, Rayna, Lucas, Jaxon, Henri, Erixon, Spencer, Trixie, Fitz and Hendrix; four sisters: Renee (Dan) St. John, Judy (Dave) Schmitz, Ellen (John) Petersen and Kathy Bremer; two brothers: Dave and Kermit (Marlene) Erickson; one step-brother: DeWayne (Ruth) Herbrandson; one step-sister: Patsy (John) Bode; three sisters-in-law: Margaret Erickson, Karen Erickson and Maureen Blilie, other relatives and many friends.
