Susan Kay Burdick

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Kay Burdick, age 82, of Spencer, IA, who left this world peacefully on August 5, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Estherville. Born on September 6, 1943, in Hartley, IA, to Wilbert and Melva (Snyder) Rusch, Susan was a beloved member of her family and community.

Susan's education began at Okoboji Consolidated School for grades 1 through 8, followed by Everly High School for grades 9 through 12, where she laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and growth. Her ambition took her to Extension Business College in Omaha, NE, where she completed the nine-month program in six months. Susan started in the work force on the teller line at Northwest Federal Savings & Loan, making a lasting mark in the financial industry and held many positions. After dedicating over 50 years to her career, Susan chose to retire in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.

On May 8, 1964, Susan married her loving husband, Jim Burdick, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, IA. Their life together was filled with love, joy, and the warmth of cherished memories. In 1977, they moved to a peaceful acreage north of Spencer, where they cultivated their life together.

Susan was deeply engaged in her community and church, contributing her talents and compassion to local initiatives. Her passions included photography, exploring freedom rocks, visiting with friends, admiring old barns, genealogy, and tending to her outdoor spaces. Additionally, she was a valued member of the I.G.L. Saddle Club.

Susan is now reunited in peace with her husband, Jim, who preceded her in death in 2013, as well as with her parents, Wilbert and Melva Rusch; her in-laws, Cliff and Della Burdick; and her grandparents Arthur & Gladys Rusch and Harold & Clara Snyder; and first cousins Keith Rusch & Randy Dykstra. She leaves behind her beloved brother, Morris (Judy) Rusch of Hartley, IA; her brother-in-law, Adrian (Paula) Burdick of Forest Lake, MN; her nieces, Amanda Rusch (fiancé Darin) of Wayne, NE, Elizabeth (Matt) Morris of Fairmont, MN, and Sara Burdick of Shelton, WA, along with numerous friends and relatives who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

In this time of loss, let us remember Susan Kay Burdick for her loving heart, vibrant spirit, and commitment to those she cherished. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
