Setsuko "Sets" Wedel

     Setsuko (Sets) Wedel, the daughter of Fukumatsu and Kameyo Shimokawara was born April 23 in Sapporo, Japan.  Her childhood years were spent in Japan.

     Sets married Jim Wedel in 1961 in Yokohama, Japan.  Following their marriage, they came to Spencer, Iowa, where they operated a family grocery store and flower shop for many years. After selling the business, they moved to Carlisle, Iowa. Sets moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2014.

     Sets was an avid bridge player, excellent cook, and enjoyed eating food from all over the world. She loved staying active which included playing volleyball at the Spencer Y. She also enjoyed watching her childrens’ sports events. In her later years, Sets enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

     She passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids on November 4, 2020 at the age of 85.  Sets was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, her husband, Jim, and one son, Bill.

     Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters: Connie, Toshie and Kim; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild, siblings: Fumio and Toni, as well as many other relatives and friends.
