Scott Leroy Moding

     Scott Leroy Moding, the son of Leslie and Irene (Grawet) Moding, was born on February 5, 1964, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up attending and graduating from Spencer High School in Spencer, Iowa in 1983. He was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran. After high school he attended and graduated from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon with a degree in Carpentry.

    In 1984, Scott enlisted with the United States Air Force and served his country as an Aircrew Life Support Specialist for 3 years working on AWACS planes. One of his fondest memories was the time he served in Saudi Arabia. After returning home, he worked for GCC Ready Mix. He met and married Angi Nemmers in 1988, to that union; they welcomed a daughter, Melanie in April of 1989.

     Scott continued his work driving concrete truck, fishing, cooking and collecting John Deere memorabilia. He met and married Sheila Nissen in August 2001, to that union; they welcomed a son, Brayden in May 2003. Due to failing health, Scott incorporated his passion for cooking at Barb’s Corner where his specialty was preparing steaks and soups. He also enjoyed seeing people every day and bartending.

    He loved spending time with his sister, Linda and her family, at the lake, fishing, boating, and watching Hogan’s Heroes. Scott loved to travel; Chicago, Oregon, California, Vegas and ocean cruises were some of the most memorable. In addition, Scott continued to support his country by attending events honoring fellow Veterans, most recently attending Hartley Community Days.

     Scott passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the age of 55 after a battle with many health issues. He was preceded in death by his parents; Leslie and Irene Moding.

    Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Linda (Roger) Schurman of Firth, NE; his children: Melanie (Brian) Morford of Brandon, SD; Brayden Moding, of Mason City, IA; his nieces Katie (Will) Jones, and their 2 children of Lincoln, NE; and Holly Schurman of Omaha, NE; 3 grandchildren; and special friends; Helen Kuehl, of Hartley, IA; Mike Kats and Diane Wedebrand of Ashton, IA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other friends.
