Ruth Mary Moermond

Ruth Mary Moermond, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Dalhoff) Kohn, was born November 7, 1931, in Cherokee County, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent in Mary Hill and in Alta, Iowa, later moving to Hartley, Iowa, where she completed her education at Hartley High School.

     Ruth married Jake Moermond on July 28, 1955, in Sanborn, Iowa.  Following their marriage, they resided on a farm near Hartley.  They moved to Sutherland, Iowa, in 1963, where they farmed and raised their family.  They moved into the town of Sutherland in 2005.  She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.  Ruth was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was past president of the O’Brien County Republican Women.

    She passed away at the Pearl Valley Care Center in Sutherland, Iowa, on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the age of 88.  Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake in 2016; and one brother, Robert Kohn.

    Left to cherish her memory are her children: David (Mary) Moermond of Urbandale, IA, Cyndi Stewart of Altoona, IA, Dan (Val) Moermond of Hartley, IA and Josh (Becca) Moermond of Sutherland, IA; 7 grandchildren: Nicholas (Alyssa) Stewart, Nathan (Lindsey) Stewart, Stephanie and Jacob Moermond, Case, Dain and Gabe Moermond; 5 great-grandchildren: Clara and Lela Stewart, Sawyer and Sylas Stewart and Simon Stewart; other relatives and many friends.
