Roger E. Fairchild

Roger Fairchild, 94, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away on November 10, 2021.  He was born on his family’s farm south of Sioux Rapids, Iowa on April 23, 1927 to Charles and Hilda (Halverson) Fairchild.  He attended school in Sioux Rapids.  Roger enlisted in the Army in May 1944 and served in Europe in WWII.

     He was united in marriage with Lois Wessman of Marathon, Iowa on June 18, 1947.  Roger had several occupations over the years.  He started as a farmer, worked in grain elevators and was employed by Spencer Packing.  Roger ended his trucking career as an owner/operator for Berkley & Co in 1989 after delivering their products throughout the U.S. and Canada for 21 years.  Roger was a member of the V.F.W. in Spencer and American Legion in Siouix Rapids.  Roger enjoyed spending time at the lake and fishing.  He was always ready with a joke or a good story.  After retirement Roger and Lois spent their winters on South Padre Island, Texas. 

     Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Norman and sister, Neva Peters.  He is survived by his wife, Lois Fairchild of Spencer; children: Carol Dayton of Bella Vista, AR, Dennis Fairchild (Joyce) of Chapel Hill, NC, Douglas Fairchild of Minneapolis, MN and Holly Nystrom (Bruce) of Milford, IA; 5 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES
Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Military Flag Presentation will be conducted by the American Legion of Sioux Rapids.
