Paul Stewart Stave was born, March 16,1947 at his grandma Anna and grandpa Louis Stave’s home in Sisseton, SD to Helen Pauline (Vollmer) Stave and Bennie Milton Stave. He spent his first years in Sisseton, and Kindred, SD and later lived in Circle, MT and Everette, WA where he graduated from high school and attended Evertte Jr. College for 2 years. Paul moved to Modale, IA to assist his father at the Modale Savings Bank and spent the next 2 years studying at Dana College in Blair, NE. He graduated with his BS in Accounting at Dana College. He was hired by Haskins and Sells, enlisted in the United States Air Force and married Janet C. Harker all in the first week of June in 1969. After four years of service his first son, Erik Paul Stave was born in 1973 in Topeka, KS. Upon returning to work at Haskins and Sells in Omaha his second son, Joel Christopher Stave was born in 1975. He moved his family to Spencer, IA and went into partnership with Merlyn Winther in 1978 forming Winther, Stave and Co. LLP.

Paul was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council and Stewardship committees. Paul loved volunteering with the Y’s club, counting cash each day at the close of the Nutty Bar Stands. He later was elected to the Clay County Fair Board and worked for 9 years with the commercial exhibits. He loved the contact with all the venders and made many lifelong friends. Paul was a member of the Spencer Rotary Club, Iowa Board of Accountancy and NASBA, The National Society of Boards of Accountancy for nine years.

Paul's favorite things to do included his yearly fishing trip to Halley’s Camp in Ontario, Canada with family and “special” friends.  Paul loved his motorhome and following his retirement 1/1/2011 he and Jan loved to just take off for “anywhere”. One of their favorite destinations was Decorah for trout fishing with his handmade flies and many coffee shop visits. Winters in Destin, FL with “snowbird” friends were special times for the last eight years.

Preceding him in death were his father, mother, mother-in-law, father-in-law and a brother-in-law.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jan, his two sons, Erik Stave and wife, Jennifer and Joel Stave and wife, Kari Lynn. Five precious grandchildren; Cole, Carson, Madison, Ethan, and Corinne; three sisters; Gay, Kay (Rick) and Jan; brother-in-law, Michael Harker; his special dog, “Ted”.
