Oscar John Adams

September 2, 1926 — January 21, 2007

Oscar John Adams, the son of Arthur and Maloney Schroeder Adams, was born September 2, 1926 in Sutherland, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Sutherland, where he received his education, graduating from Sutherland High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from July of 1945, until his honorable discharge in November of 1946. Oscar married Inez June Tharp on June 22, 1947 in Sutherland, Iowa. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Sutherland, where he farmed for his father for a number of years. He later purchased a Hardware store in 1962, which he operated for over 10 years and later worked for the Coop Elevator, until his retirement. Since his retirement, he did seasonal work for Craig Struve at CS Agrow in Calumet, IA. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, where he served on several church boards and committee's. Oscar was a member of Abiff Lodge #347 and was a 60 year member of the American Legion Post #152 of Sutherland. Oscar and Inez enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with their family and friends. Oscar passed away suddenly at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Inez on March 5, 2003 and a half brother, Elmer Litzel. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters and their husbands: Sheryl and Robert Hild of Waterloo, IA, and Paula and Tom Buresh of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons and their wives: Douglas and Marsha of South Sioux City, NE and Robert and Janine of Surprise, AZ; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two sister-in-law's, Evelyn Reiste of Ocheyedan, IA and Dorothy Hill of Cherokee, IA; one brother-in-law, Elvin Tharp of Seattle, WA; other relatives and many friends. FISHERMAN'S PRAYER God grant that I may fish until my dying day. And when I come to my last cast, I'll then most humbly pray, When in the Lord's safe landing net, I'm peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I'll be judged, As good enough to keep.
