Norma Nagel

Norma Jeanne Nagel, the daughter of Walter and Leota (Bailey) Heick, was born on June 22, 1932, in Peterson, IA. She received her early education at Peterson Consolidated School. After graduation in 1949 she pursued a career in Early education at Buena Vista in Storm Lake, IA, where she received her degree in 1951.

Early in her career she taught at Melvin, Rolfe, Royal and Brooke. When she came to Sioux Valley School, she taught 5th grade until she retired in 1997.

On February 3, 1956, Norma married Ralph Nagel in Ames, IA, after the marriage they began to farm west of Peterson, IA. She was a member of the Congregational church.

On Saturday, January 10, 2026, Norma passed away at home at the age of 93, with family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph, daughter Sandra Miles; 3 sisters: Doris Hiedeman, Fran Zahrens; and Ramona Nagel.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jeff and his wife Kelly of Peterson, IA; Tamera and her husband, Todd of Sutherland, IA; grandson Shannon Nagel of Gordon, NE; granddaughter, Rachel Sohn of Hospers, IA; Justin Schipper (fiancé), 2 great-great-grandsons, Jayden and Layne of Wellsburg, IA; and one brother-in-law, Daryle Nagel of Pocahontas, IA; as well as other relatives and friends.
