Norma Jean Meyer

November 8, 1931 — January 2, 2023

Terril

Norma Jean Meyer was born November 8, 1931 to Bernard and Irma (Matthews) Woodford in a farm house near Ayrshire, IA. Her childhood years were spent near Webb, and Norma Jean  graduated from Cornell High School in 1949. After high school she lived in Spencer while working at Redmond’s Shoe Store and Farmers Savings and Loan as a bookkeeper. Norma Jean also spent some time in Des Moines as well and worked as a secretary at the American Baptist State Office. She was blessed with a very close, loving family, great friends (including her many cousins), a fun sense of humor, and an incredibly strong faith from a young age. She has told many stories about the fun her and her family had growing up. She was very involved in church youth groups and 4-H and helping around the house and on the family farm.

Norma Jean met Royal Meyer in 1958 while roller skating in Spencer, and they were married on July 25, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Webb. The couple made their home in Terril, IA on Royal’s family farm. Norma Jean was a devoted farm wife, mother, and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was always helping where she could, and took care of everyone she knew and loved.

Norma Jean enjoyed many things including volunteering, crafting, reading, doing puzzles, and playing card games. She loved antiquing and shopping, attending the Clay County Fair, snowmobiling with her husband and kids. Her love for traveling took her to many places all over the world. She shared her adventures with not only Royal, but her friends as well.

Most important in her life was her faith and family. She never missed a chance to spread the word of God, make great memories, or share a laugh. Norma Jean was strong, compassionate, humble, kind soul. Her dignity and integrity will forever remain unmatched, and she was and is loved by all. She made such a wonderful impact on all that knew her, which is nearly impossible to put into words.

Norma Jean Meyer passed away on January 2, 2023 at Accura Healthcare in Milford, IA at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, her brother and sister-in-laws, and one sister, Janice Woodford.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michael (Kathy) Meyer of Estherville, IA, and Jeffery (Rose) Meyer of Terril, IA. Her four grandchildren, Leaha (Drew) Eldridge and Mitchell Meyer of Spencer, IA, Andrew (Alisha) Meyer of Terril, IA, and Keisha (Matthew) Muschall of Omaha, NE. As well as seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Gary Woodford, of Rapid City, SD, and countless other family and friends.
