Neal Alan Cooksey

Neal Alan Cooksey, the son of Larry and Garnet (Maddox) Cooksey was born April 28, 1960 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Spencer area, where he attended school and graduated from Spencer High School in 1978.

Neal enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1978 and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1980. He married Kim Coyle on October 4, 2006 in Spencer, IA. He worked as a metal technician for Shine Bros.

Neal enjoyed playing pool, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, watching NASCAR and was an avid fan of Mark Martin. He was a member of the Eagle’s Club and served as a past president. He was also fond of his dogs.

Neal passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Annette Cooksey.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim of Spencer, IA; 5 children, Shandell Burger, Joseph (Susan) Dardar, Thomas (Christina) Coyle, Ricci (Brian) Booth, and Micheal (Alecia) Kunath, all of Spencer, IA; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren 3 sisters, Natalie (Dan) Dubbert, Nancy Rogers, and Nanette Monklien; one brother, Nick Rogers; one sister, Susie Rolling; other relatives; and many friends.
