Murray Weir Hart was born on March 1, 1947 in Anthon, Iowa. Murray died July 30, 2021 in Spencer, Iowa, surrounded by his family, at the age of 74. He was raised in Correctionville, Iowa where he received his elementary and high school education. He earned 16 high school varsity letters for his athletic accomplishments.
Murray enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966, serving honorably until 1968. He attained the rank of Sergeant E5. He then enrolled in Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He played football and golf for Buena Vista College and graduated with a degree in business in 1972. He was voted most valuable player in golf in 1971.
In 1971, Murray married Jackie Phillips Maurer of Spencer, Iowa. They had 5 children and were married for 50 years. They lived in Storm Lake, Iowa; Boise, Idaho; Spencer, Iowa and Tucson, Arizona.
Mr. Hart had a long and successful business career in the real estate business, the fast food business, the motel/hotel business, the apartment business and many other venture capital endeavors.
Murray was an active amateur golfer and won many tournaments. He served on the Iowa Golf Association Board for 25 years and served as their President from 2001 through 2003.
Murray served on several other boards during his life; including 23 years as the treasurer and trustee of the Spencer Municipal Utilities, the Spencer Golf and Country Club Board, the Maurer Manufacturing Board of Directors, The Gallery Advisory Board of Directors, and the Pistachio Corporation of Arizona Board.
Murray is survived by his wife Jackie and their four children; Todd and his wife Shelly, Tiffany and her husband Brian Mohr, Troy, and Tory; His sister Patty Earnest and her husband Elmer; Nephew Brian Earnest and his wife Brenda, and their 4 children, along with eight grandchildren; Summer, Chloe, Jordan, Piper, Emerson, Taylor, TJ, & Jack.
Murray was preceded in death by his brother Denny; his father Roland; his mother Vivian; his niece Kari Earnest; and his daughter Nikki Marie.
