Minnie Margaret Vance

Minnie Margaret Vance was born March 2, 1916 in Bronaugh. Mo to Asa and Pearl Smith Hair. She received her early education in Dickenson and Clay County Iowa rural schools,and attended high school at Okoboji Consolidated School. On August 17,1932 she married Charley Vance in Spirit Lake, IA

They farmed the first 12 years of life together in Iowa and Minnesota, moving to Spencer in 1944. Minnie worked at Carrols Bakery, Montgomery Ward and Aalf’s Manufacturing until 1976, when she opened and operated Minnie’s Kitchen until she retired in 1981. Minnie & Charley moved to Bullhead City ,Arizona shortly after her retirement. She then returned to Spencer  in 1991,approximately 2 years after Charlie’s passing.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charley, one son, Gordon, granddaughter Marie Vance Devgan, great granddaughter Halie Hochart, daughter-in-law Linda Vance, and 6 brothers.

She is survived by her daughter Betty Weikum, Spencer, two sons, John Vance of Des Moines, IA, Donn (Linda) Vance of Monterey, TN, daughter in law Dorothy Ullrich of Seattle, WA, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
