Mary Frances Welch

   Mary Frances Welch, age 76, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on December 12, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.

   Born on November 4, 1949, in Spencer, Iowa, Mary was the daughter of Joseph Welch and Blenda (Harald) Welch. She grew up in the community of Rossie, Iowa.

   Mary graduated from Clay Central High School in Royal, Iowa, in 1967. Following high school, she continued her education at Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, MN preparing her for clerical and administrative employment.

   She began her working life in Spencer, Iowa, first at the Fisher Insurance and Real Estate Agency, and later at the Schumann New York Life Insurance Agency. In 1969, Mary moved to Houston, Texas, beginning a new chapter that would shape the rest of her life.

   That same year, she joined the U.S. Army Reserves, beginning 20+ years of honorable service to her country. During her military career, she continued her commitment to public service by joining the City of Houston Planning Department, where she worked for 28 years before retiring. Her colleagues knew her as steady, reliable, and deeply committed to her work.

   She is survived by her brother, David Welch, and his wife, Linda, who will forever cherish her memory.

In accordance with Mary’s wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation - a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
