Mary Elizabeth Lundt

     Mary Elizabeth Lundt, the daughter of Joe A. and Jennie Lou (Stone) Barger, was born January 18, 1929 in Edgewood, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent in Edgewood, where she received her education, graduating in 1945.  She later moved to Spencer, Iowa.

     Mary married Edward John Lundt on January 14, 1951.  She worked at the old Spencer Times and also worked at KICD Radio until her retirement in 1960.  The couple later divorced and she moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1983, returning to Spencer, Iowa in the year 2000.  She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. People will remember her introductory “You Who” when she walked through their front door.  At every family gathering, Mary would make her famous cornbread using a round tin can, enough for everyone to take the extra home with them.

       She passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Monday, January 23, 2023 at the age of 94.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Maxine Keefe and Marian Wilson and a brother, James Barger.

      Mary did not have any children, but instead has a sister, Barbara (Harold) Anderson of Spencer; a number of nieces, nephews: Vicki (Tom) Thompson, Shaun, Jenny, Cam  (Pat) Nichel and their daughters, Haley & Carly, Jamie (Todd) Schloemer and their children: Jake & Stevie, Kristin Haviland (Mark Flikkema) and their family Jayden & Morgan & Dalton and Tyler Flikkema and many dear friends including the Shirley Kooker family.
