Marvin Arnold Menting, the son of Theodore and Ruth (Kikhafer) Menting was born August 29, 1944 in Marshall, MN. His childhood years were spent in the Marshall, MN area, where he attended Catholic School. He left home as a teenager and started work as a farm hand. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served in Korea, as a power lineman until his Honorable Discharge in 1967.
After the military, Marvin continued working as a lineman for Crawford Electric, moving throughout the Midwest. He later married Linda Woolery on April 19, 1969, in Spencer, IA, and they settled there in 1973 when he went to work for Morton Buildings. He worked there for 39 years until his retirement. He moved to Everly, IA, in 2012 after his wife’s passing.
Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, mechanical work, small engine repairs, and doing handyman work. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered for his hard work and helping people. He was a member of the Everly American Legion.
Marvin passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at the Spencer Hospital, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Cindy, his wife, a daughter, Charlotte Maassen, and a son-in-law, Matthew Coleman.
Left to cherish his memory are his 2 children, Greta Coleman of Boone, IA and Jeremy Menting of Everly, IA; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother John Menting of Sioux Falls, SD one sister, Agatha Cleaveland of Arlington, SD; one son-in-law, Keith Maassen of Spencer, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Marvin's name.
