Marvin Andrew Hollander, passed away on Wednesday, November 15th at Avera Mc.Kennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota after a brief illness.


Marvin Andrew Hollander was born on June 30, 1955 to Amos and Betty (Nelson) Hollander in Hartley, Iowa.  In 1981, he was united in marriage to Kristy Means in Spencer, Iowa and divorced in 1987. To this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Catrina and a son Cory whom he cherished and loved unconditionally. Marvin attended high school until the 11th grade. While in high school he began working at Superior Manufacturing. After dropping out of high school in the 11th grade, he continued his employment at Superior Manufacturing/later Witco for almost 25 years until the business moved out of the country. He began working at the Southpark Mall as a janitor for over 23 years and currently had been the Maintenance/Janitor worker at JCPenney’s in Spencer for the last 20 plus years. Marvin lived in northwest Iowa all his life and most recently relocated to his daughter’s house east of Fostoria. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards like canasta, funny rummy, 500, looking at all the classic cars as well as tinkering on cars. Most importantly he loved spending time with family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Catrina (Jason) King of Fostoria; son, Cory of Hartley; his mother, Betty Hollander of Spencer; his sister June Miller of Spencer, and brothers Nels (Shirley) of Sac City; Danny (Connie) of Spencer; sister in- laws, Betty of Ames and Jolene of Spencer; and his 2 grandchildren, Trent and Jayden King; several nieces and nephews along with many other family and friends including his JCPenney family.

 

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Amos, grandparents Emma and Jurgen Hollander & Anna Ruby, his uncles, Darrel and Garold Kruse, his aunts Martha Gadd, Francis Edward & Mae Crawford, his two brothers, Raymond and Dale and great nephew Cody Connor.
