Marjorie Yvonne Horst

March 20, 1940 — September 4, 2021

Spencer

Marjorie (Marge) Yvonne Horst, daughter of Wayne and Vera (Martin) Bjorklund, was born on March 20th, 1940 in Albert City, Ia. In her early years, she received her schooling in Albert City, IA. After completing her schooling, she was united in marriage to Gary Kress in Norfolk, Virginia and to this union three children were born: Deborah (Kress) Helmke, Kelly Kress, and Johnny Kress.

In 1967 she then moved back to Spencer, Iowa to be closer to family. Upon moving back, she met the love of her life James (Jim) Horst and they were united in marriage on June 6th, 1970 in Sioux Rapids, IA. From this union one son was born, James Horst Jr.

Most of her life was spent as a loving wife to her husband Jim of 49 years and a mother to her four children. Marge worked tirelessly and took pride in creating a home that was filled with love and laughter. She was a hardworking woman who loved her family deeply and cherished the time she spent with them. She invested herself into each of her children’s lives because she valued the importance of motherhood and the impact it would have on future generations. Marge was a godly woman who valued her faith in Jesus Christ and relished the opportunity to tell others about her Savior. She was a woman of prayer and devoted herself daily to pray for those in need. She loved being in the woman’s bible study and each one of those women were very precious to her. She was a loyal member of Foundation Church.

After her kids were all grown her caregiving continued on in her grandchildren and the elderly. She was a caregiver for several women in the community over the course of 20 years. She nurtured each of them as she cooked, cleaned, and visited with them on a weekly basis. She truly was the epitome of what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. But it was her grandchildren that she enjoyed taking care of most. She devoted herself to being involved in each of her grandchildren’s lives as they were all very special to her. Each one of them in their own unique way had a special place in her heart.

Marge passed away on Saturday, September 4th 2021 at the age of 81 at the Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim Horst, two brothers, Arly Bjorklund and Darreld Bjorklund; and her son Johnny Kress.
