Marion June Bertsch

     Marion June (Speidel) Bertsch, age 89 of Spencer, Iowa passed away on January 7, 2023 at St. Luke Lutheran Home.

     Marion was born on June 30, 1933 in Ashley, ND to Gottlieb and Fredaricka Speidel.

     Marion married Dwaine gaylord Bertsch on June 3, 1951 at Ashley, ND.  While Dwaine was in the Army, she taught at a country school.  Marion raised five children and was a homemaker until she went to work as a clerk at Lou Talbert’s, then put herself through college to become an accountant, and then went on to become a successful realtor.

     After the five children were grown, they moved to Grand Forks, ND where she continued selling real estate.  When driving back home to see their parents, they found a farm to buy in Leola, SD and became farmers raising cattle, a few crops and many little critters.  You would always find Marion feeding the animals, in the garden, planting flowers, walking among the herd or sitting in the living room reading a book.

     She was active in her church as a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, and a “Funeral Lady”.

     In 2012 they retired, sold the farm and moved to Spencer, IA.

     Marion was a warmhearted, fun loving woman, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

     Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Deborah (Butch) Schomer, Sheila (Kelly) Hoffart, DuAnn (Don Foy) Bertsch, Charlene (Keith) Frick and Duane (Tami) Bertsch; grandchildren: Jeremy, Justin, Jennifer, Leah, Nicole, Chance, Alex, Hayden and Connor; great-grandchildren: Izic, Elah, Knox, Katelynn, Danilynn, Kaidyn, Kolton, Jazmyn, Zack, Ivan Charlie and Jack; many nieces and nephews.

     Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Dwaine; parents, Gottlieb and Fredaricka Speidel; grandson, Jack Vescovi; brothers: hugo and Herbert Speidel and sister, Violet Dobler.

     Marion will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
