Marilyn Rebecca Craig

October 11, 1938 — July 6, 2020

Spencer

Marilyn Rebecca Craig, the daughter of John and Dorothy Flack was born October 11, 1938 at home in Langdon, Iowa. Marilyn attended grade school in Dickens, Iowa, and high school in Spencer, Iowa. After graduation, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she met the love of her life, Airman Eldon (Bill) Craig.

On November 23, 1957, Marilyn and Bill were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Dickens, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived on Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE., where their first two daughters, Kathi and Terri, were born. Over the course of the next several years, the air force transferred Bill and Marilyn to many new locations including Virginia, Iceland, Turkey, Illinois, Arkansas, San Antonio (where daughter Patti was born), and their final move, which was back home to Spencer, Iowa. Marilyn was proud to be an Air Force wife, and truly enjoyed moving around, getting to experience new places and meet new people, many of whom she kept in contact with for the rest of her life.

There were several things in her life that Marilyn enjoyed throughout the years. When she was a teenager, nbshe was quite a skater, and could often be found skating up at the Majestic Pavilion in Arnolds Park, Iowa. Later in life, she spent several [TS1] years working as the secretary and bookkeeper for the Clay County Sheriff’s office, a job she loved, not only because she was a perfect fit for the job itself, but also because she really loved working with and being part of the team of people in that office. Other things Marilyn enjoyed in her spare time included family get-togethers, crossword puzzles, bible study, and visiting friends and relatives all over the country. She loved listening to music including classic country, rock and roll and gospel tunes. Worshipping the Lord was important to Marilyn and she would often spend evenings reading and studying her bible.

Marilyn passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is survived by Bill Craig, her husband of 62 years; 3 children including Kathi (Michael) Wetter of Orange City, Iowa; Terri (Rick) Scheil of El Segundo, California; and Patti Stallcup of Spencer, Iowa; 8 grandchildren including: Jamie Ahrens (special friend Kris McDonald), Aubrey Ahrens (special friend Austin Cope), Samantha (Tony) Fastert, Chance (Stephanie) Wetter, Jason (Juliana) Scheil, Adam (Sarah) Scheil, Elizabeth Stallcup, and Rebecca Stallcup; 7 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Darlene Flack; brother Duane Flack; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law Eldon and Kathryn Craig; her brother, John Flack; her sister and brother-in-law Vanita and Bill Williams; and nephews Quentin Flack and Rod Williams.
