Marcie Rae Muckey

Marcella Rae (Nelson) Muckey, 95, was born on July 25, 1931 in Hills, MN to Olaf Norman and Gladys Irene (Lee) Nelson.

Marcie’s early years were spent in Hills where she graduated from high school. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, and in 1982, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. For several years, Marcie taught third and fourth grades at Akron and Spencer, IA. In 1957, Marcie married Don Burnight, however Don was lost to cancer seventeen months later. Marcie then married Delmar J. Muckey on July 30, 1961. She and Del lived in Spencer since 1958.

Marcie was a member of the First Congressional Church in Spencer where she taught Sunday and Bible School for years, and was active in the Women’s Fellowship. She is also a member of PEO Chapter AT and involved with the Friends of the Library at the Spencer Public Library. Marcie enjoyed hand-work, reading, and pressing flowers, especially pansies. If you have ever received personal mail from Marcie, a dried, pressed pansy was probably included! She was a voracious reader & enjoyed books of all kinds. She wrote & published her memoirs, “I Remember”, in 2017.

Marcie is survived by her son, Lance D. (Christine) Muckey, a sister, Dianne (Dennis) Van Goor of Sioux Falls, SD; brother in law, Keith Doughty of Alexandra, MN; and several, very loved, nieces and nephews. Children close to her heart are Christopher (Jen) Jones of Marshalltown, IA; Kelly (Mike) Preville of Mesa, AZ; Joshua Haburn, of Spencer, IA; Kori (Jarrod) Bunn of Urbandale, IA; Justin (Nicki) Haburn of Spencer, IA; along with 9 especially loved great-grandchildren. Special friend, Becky Koenig also held space in her heart.

Marcie is preceded in death by her husband Del; her parents; her brother, George Nelson; and her sister Crystal Doughty.
