Spencer

Lois Marvelyn Johnson, the daughter of Otto and Hortense (Hartman) Sierck, was born September 16, 1928 in Okoboji, IA.

On February 14, 1949, she married Eugene H. Johnson at her parents’ home in Spencer, IA. After establishing their first home near Alta, IA, they moved to Morris, MN, then back to Iowa near Rembrandt, then Arnolds Park and finally to Spencer where they have resided since 1968. She worked at St. Luke Lutheran Home from 1966 until retirement in 1993. Never able to sit still,  she was drawn back to fill her days working at the Highlands and Dr. Crampton’s office in Spencer, IA.

Lois enjoyed card playing, flower gardening and roller coasters. She once rode almost every ride at Worlds of Fun Amusement Park in Kansas City while in her 50’s. She was still going while everyone else in the group had had enough. She enjoyed browsing cookbooks for recipes and creating delicious food (she made the best chocolate chip cookies, potato salad, sour cream raisin pie and peach pie). She hosted 30 and 40-some people every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter for many years. For 30 plus summers, she and Eugene enjoyed fishing and friendships at the Hobo Park Campground in Starbuck, MN.  They spent a lot of time fishing and Lois could consistently out fish Eugene.

She passed away surrounded by family at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the age of 92. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Marvin, Robert and Gordon, and sisters: Vaunita and Lucille.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Eugene; her children: Steven (Marta) Johnson of Spencer, Douglas (friend MeShell) Johnson of Arnolds Park, IA, Debra (Joel) Hurst of Spirit Lake, IA, Jeffrey (Trish) Johnson of Avon, MN and Angela (John) Hameister of Milford, IA; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren (one expected in April), 2 great great grandchildren; two sisters: Beverly Zahrt of Garden City, IA and Patricia (Jerry) True of Central Point, OR; one brother, Burton (Arlys) Sierck of Spencer, IA; many other relatives and friends.
