Lois A. Simmons

Spencer

     Lois A. Simmons passed away on December 24, 2020, at the Spencer Hospital.   She was born November 7, 1926 in Sac County, Iowa, to Frederick and Frieda (Clausen) Blass.

Lois graduated from Spencer High School and worked as a bookkeeper at Bjornstad Drug Store until marrying Donald L. Simmons on March 5, 1949.  They settled on the “Hospital Farm” south of Spencer and in 1969, they moved to the farm once owned by Don’s father.

     Lois was a member of First English Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, stewardship secretary, and member of the women’s guilds.  She was a leader of the Sioux Township girls 4-H Club in the ‘70s and ‘80s and also served in various roles, including as Superintendent, in the Baked Goods Department at the Clay County Fair.  She volunteered for many years as an Election Day poll worker for the Clay County Auditor’s Office.  She has been a resident at St. Luke Lutheran Home since 2017.

     Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, and siblings and spouses, Norman Blass (Dorothy), Carol Wegehaupt (Walter), Weldon (Bob) Blass (Gladys), Helen Groenewold (George), and Vivian Mulder.

     She is survived by sons Steve Simmons and John Simmons of Spencer and daughter Anne (Rich Oarr) Simmons of Alexandria, VA , as well as grandsons, Nicholas (Michaela) Simmons and Marcus Simmons of Spencer.

     The family wishes to thank Dr. Sather and Dr. Dvorak and the nurses at Spencer Hospital for their care during her hospitalizations.

     Memorials can be sent to the Clay County Fair, Spencer, Iowa.

SERVICES
Graveside Services will be 7:00P.M., Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Northlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer.
