It is with both sorrow and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Lloyd Andrew Duffney, age 93. Lloyd passed away on April 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to family and community. A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lloyd will be deeply missed.
Born to George and Tillie Duffney on April 22, 1932, in Detroit Lakes, MN, Lloyd lived a life marked by compassion, courage, and a deep sense of duty. Lloyd spent his early years in Minnesota, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1951.
Lloyd proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning, he attended Moorhead University where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree majoring in Art Education. Lloyd continued his life of service in many roles: as a police officer, a teacher, and a house parent at Quakerdale.
On June 9, 1963, he married the love of his life, Patricia Peters—his “Patty Jo”—and together they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and service. They raised three children: David, Lloyd “Ed” and Erin, teaching them the values of integrity, hard work, and love. In 1981, he and his family moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he remained a dedicated member of the community.
Lloyd was a talented artist who poured his heart and soul into every canvas, capturing the worldthrough vivid colors and bold strokes. His artistic creativity was matched only by his love for music, which filled his home with the sounds of creativity. Whether he was playing his violin or his accordion, music was an integral part of his life. But perhaps what Lloyd was most passionate about was mentoring children. He believed in the power of creativity to shape young minds and dedicated countless hours to guiding and inspiring them.
Lloyd’s legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and deep devotion to his family. Those who knew Lloyd will remember his gentle spirit, quick wit, and unwavering support for his family and friends.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace, joyfully reunited with his beloved wife Patricia and cherished son Ed. Lloyd will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Lloyd is survived by his children David and Erin; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Joyce) Duffney and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Tillie, sister Bernice, his wife Patricia and his son Ed.
A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held on Friday, May 9th at 2:00 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer, IA. Livestream available at: bit.ly/3GDJR1c
