Lawrence Donald Bendlin

     Lawrence “Larry” Donald Bendlin, the son of Clarence and Mary (Freeburg) Bendlin, was born on February 24, 1946, in  Spencer, Iowa. He was raised and received his early education here graduating from Spencer High School. Following graduation, he worked at A.M. Laundry, Spencer Pak and then at Eaton’s. While working at Eaton’s he was a machinist. He worked there until his retirement in 2006.

     He married Laura Cunningham on October 8, 1966 in Spencer, Iowa. The couple made their home in Spencer, where they raised their family. Larry loved to deer and duck hunt, go fishing. He belonged to the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club. He was a Boy Scout Leader with the Webelos. He was an avid reader, liked to play pool and enjoyed being outside. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

     Larry passed away on November 4, 2019 at his home at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura; his brother, Jim and his sister-in-law, Connie.

     Left to cherish his memory are his children: Donald Bendlin and Shane Bendlin both of Spencer, IA, Benjamin Bendlin and his wife, Erin of Spirit Lake, IA, Ashley Bendlin and Haley Bendlin both of Spencer, IA; his grandchildren: Tessa, Amber, Brent and Brea Bendlin; two great grandchildren: Dax Ginger and Rayne Cowell; his brother, Bob Bendlin and his wife, Sue of Spencer, IA and Susan Morgan and her husband, Bob of Grants Pass, OR; other relatives and friends.
