Lavon Arlee Kephart, the daughter of Oscar and Esther (Kruse) Walstrom, was born on September 22, 1924, in the Royal area. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran in Royal and later confirmed at First English. She received her early education at Lincoln Twp. School #2 and graduated from Spencer High School in 1942. She continued to live in the area all of her life.
On November 7, 1943, Lavon married Floyd Kephart in Spencer. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Spencer area for 7 years; moved to southern Iowa and farmed until 1957 when they moved to the Royal area and farmed for 30 years. She was a homemaker and loved to help on the farm and raise her family. Throughout her life she was employed at Hunter Flying Service and Equitable Life of Iowa and worked at First English Lutheran Church for 12 years. She was a member of First English and was a church organist for many years. She was in the choir and was the accompanist for the New Life Singers. In later years she has enjoyed playing for singalongs at St. Luke’s, Longhouse, Northshire and many others in the community. She enjoyed dancing, music, bingo and being a social butterfly.
Lavon passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd in 1987; her grandson, Jason Ralph; her son-in-law, James Ralph; four brothers, Melburn and Darrel, Veryl and Arville
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Tom Kephart (Marcia) of Vassar, KS; her daughters: Pam Ralph of Vadnais Heights, MN, and Beth Dill (Gary) of Loveland, CO; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
