Larry Ray Flaharty, a lifelong steward of the land and family man, passed away at his home in rural Dickens, Iowa, on February 18, 2026, at the age of 66.
Born on January 19, 1960, to Paul and Joyce (Carpenter) Flaharty. Larry was baptized at the Methodist Church in Langdon, Iowa, with water brought from the River Jordan. He graduated from Terril High School in 1978 and continued his education at Hawkeye Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree in Animal Science in 1982.
On August 1, 1982, Larry was united in marriage to Linda Nowack at St. John Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa. Together, they built a life centered on hard work and the family they cherished.
A farmer through and through, Larry’s life was defined by the rhythm of the seasons. He found his greatest purpose in 7L Farms, where he took immense pride in raising cattle, hogs, and the many farm cats that crossed his path. For Larry, farming wasn't just a job; it was a way to care for the land so that it could, in turn, provide for his family.
Though he was a man of quiet demeanor, his presence was felt deeply. He was a steady fixture at his children’s numerous activities and a patient mentor during 4-H projects. He loved the simple things: a Minnesota Twins game, the satisfaction of a well-tended field, and the joy of a delicious meal shared with his family.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Flaharty, and his brother, Dan Flaharty.
His legacy lives on through his father, Paul Flaharty; his beloved wife of 43 years, Linda, of Dickens, IA; and their five children: Lucas (Kallie) Flaharty and their daughters, Emma and Ava, of Marion, IA; Leah (Tyler) Donaldson and their children, Caden and Cami, of Rochester, MN; Lindsay (Landon) Johansen and their children, Lillian, Levi, and Lyra, of West Union, IA; Logan Flaharty of Chicago, IL; and Lauren Flaharty and fiancé Kirk Kenyon of Whittemore, IA. He is also survived by his brothers, Weldon (Jennifer) Flaharty and Stan Flaharty, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
