Larry Eugene Beck, the son of Robert E. and Dorothy M. (Taylor) Beck, was born March 26, 1945 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1963. Upon graduation, he earned his associate degree in accounting from Mankato Commercial College. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, from August of 1965, until his honorable discharge in September of 1969.

He worked many different jobs there but spent the most time working as a Clay County Fair Police Officer under the Grandstand, at Northwestern Christian bookstore, and for his sister-in-law Tammy’s booth, at Riecke’s Bayside Gallery.
