Kristi Kay Rutherford

Kristi Kay Rutherford, the daughter of Gerald and Mary (Fraser) Fairchild was born September 9, 1962 in Storm Lake, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Greenville, IA area, where she attended Clay Central School. Her family moved closer to Spencer when she was in the 9th grade, where she graduated from Spencer High School in 1980. Kristi then went to Stewarts Beauty School in Sioux Falls, SD.

Kristi returned to Spencer, where she worked for Regis at the South Park Mall. She then moved to Estherville, IA and married Rhett Thomas in 1993. Kristi worked for GKN for 10 years and then HyVee until her retirement in 2018 and later moved to Milford, IA.

Kristi enjoyed animals, especially her cats, Dr. Pepper, Harry Potter, listening to music, particularly Bob Seger, watching movies and anything supernatural. She especially enjoyed spending time with her daughter Tiffany and always looked forward to when Tiffany would bring friends to the house. In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening, canning, bonfires, hunting, fishing and she will always be remembered as having a smile on her face.

Kristi passed away on Wednesday, August 27, at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake, IA at the age of 62. She was preceded in death by her parents, best friend, Dale Gardener and close family friend, Jake Loftis.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tiffany (Grant Potter) Thomas of Spirit Lake, IA; 2 brothers, Mark (Mary) Fairchild of Spencer, IA and Brian (Linda) Fairchild of Spencer, IA; sister, Jill (Randy) Loomis of Emmetsburg, IA; 4 nieces; 2 nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Kristi's name.
