Spencer

Kirk Douglas Andersen, born on February 14, 1950, in Spencer, IA to Carlo and Norma Andersen and welcomed home by his brother, Greg.

He attended school in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 1968. Following his schooling, Kirk served in the United States Army Air Defense Artillery from 1969 to 1971. On January 2, 2025, he received a Quilt of Valor. After the service, Kirk worked at Spencer Municipal Utilities as a lineman for 33 years. He loved his work and gained lifetime friends.

He was blessed with two wonderful sons, Kristian and Nathan, who have grown into amazing men that he was very proud of.

He married his soulmate, Sue Rieck on November 30, 2001. Together they shared a never-ending love for each other, family and friends. He loved his family being close and summers at the cottage were a favorite. He was a true outdoorsman, loved to hunt and fish. Living in the country was home.

He loved to cook, carrying on the “Andersen” tradition making Yardstick, Rullepolse, the best sauerkraut and many more great foods.

He had the best smile, and was very kind, loving, compassionate and caring. With a sense of humor that made us all laugh, smile and love him more.

His outlook on life was amazing – one day at a time with the help of God.

He and Sue enjoyed going to craft shows with their Suki Jewelry business and to the Clay County Fair with their Comfort Harness business.

Kirk passed away on September 10, 2026 at home with his family by his side at the age of 76. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Greg.

Left to cherish is memory are his wife, Sue and beloved Lexi; two sons and their wives: Kristian and Heather Andersen and Nathan and Sandra Snow-Andersen; grandchildren: Haley (Cooper) Folsom, Makenzie (Shawn) Cantrall, Devin Andersen, Colton Andersen, Brady Andersen and Cienna Alcala; great-grandchildren: Avery, Dax, Ryder and two on the way; sister-in-law, Maria Andersen; brother-in-law, Dave (Nancy) Rieck; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
