Kenneth John Borth

 Kenneth “Ken” John Borth, the son of Laris John and Doris Lorraine (Semerud) Borth, was born on June 20, 1951 in Sleepy Eye, MN. He was raised and received his early education in Fairfax, MN, graduating from Fairfax High School.  Following high school, Ken held various jobs before starting his own auto body shop in Fairfax.

     Ken married Laura Fahey in June of 1969. To this union three children were born. They moved to Creston in 1978 where he managed an auto body department of a local dealership. In 1980, he moved to Spencer, where he was a body shop manager at Don Pierson Ford and then worked at Bob Burns’ dealership in Spirit Lake before starting his own business.

     On July 15, 1989, Ken married Kim Parks Mohr in Okoboji, IA. Ken spent the last 40 years in Spencer, where he started Ken Borth Auto Body which then expanded into Ken Borth Auto Plaza. Ken had many hobbies when he wasn’t working. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and going to the  Sturgis Rally, classic cars, camping, boating, having weekend brunch with his family and spending time with and teasing his granddaughters.

    Ken was larger than life in all aspects of the phrase. He was the most gentle grandfather, the strongest father and an incredible friend to many. His strength knew no bounds. Few people are as sarcastic, yet genuine, as Ken, a balance only he could truly master. He helped countless people, always with the wit distinctive to him. Ken would not have wanted us to be sad for too long. Instead, he would want us to be together and exchange stories and laughs. We will do just that at a celebration of his life sometime this spring. We will mourn his absence here on earth, but will continue his unrelenting legacy.

     Ken passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN, at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Penny Borth.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim of Spencer, IA; his sons: Chuck and his wife, Liz of Spencer, IA, David and his wife, Becky of Overland Park, KS, Bill and his fiancé, Maile of Des Moines, IA; his stepson, Jason Mohr of Spencer, IA; his 8 grandchildren: Marisa, Mollie, Abby, Carly Ella Leighton, Greyson and Jaxon; his brother, Jerry Borth of St. Cloud, MN, his sisters: Margaret Meyer of New Ulm, MN, Brenda Johnson of Fairfax, MN and Ann Borth of LeSeur, MN; other relatives and many friends.
