Joyce Alyce Carpenter, the daughter of Clarence Paul and Ruth Lillian (Foster) Carpenter was born August 29, 1933 in rural Clay County, Iowa. She graduated from Lake Center High School in 1951, and attended Hamilton School of Business in Mason City, Iowa. Joyce was baptized in the Langdon Methodist Church on January 22, 1950, and joined the church April 9, 1950.
On May 25, 1952, Joyce was united in marriage to Paul A. Flaharty at the Langdon Methodist Church. To this union was born four sons: Weldon, Stanley, Dan and Larry.
Joyce became a member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer, Iowa, on April 2, 1972. She taught Sunday School for several years and was active in Bible study groups.
Joyce passed away on June 2, 2023, at her residence at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Danny L. Flaharty; brother, Paul L. Carpenter; sisters, Grace Carpenter Bryce and Iris Carpenter Hanson; two nephews, Barry Carpenter and Robert Carpenter; one niece, Barbara Bryce Raydon; one brother-in-law, Jeff Bryce; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Carpenter.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Paul; three sons: Weldon (wife, Jennifer) of Colorado Springs, CO, Stan of Fort Meyers, FL, daughter-in-law Tracey of Jesup, IA, and Larry and (wife Linda) of Dickens, IA; twelve grandchildren, Lucas, Mackenzie, Erinn, Leah, Keegan, Lindsay, Logan, Lauren, Brett, Brock, Allison, and Alex. Two nieces, Glenda Gustin of Dickens, and Rhonda Clancey of Neenah, WI and two nephews, Randy Hanson of Redlands, CA and Mark Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, IA.
