Jon Patrick Harrold

Jon Patrick Harrold, the son of Clement and Alice (Williams) Harrold was born February 26, 1940 in Sioux Rapids, IA. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, IA, where he attended school and graduated from Spencer High School in 1958. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1958 and after bootcamp, he was stationed in Pensacola, FL where he was a yeoman with the Aviation Safety Office, earning the “Man of the Year” award. He served one year on the minesweeper U.S.S. Notable and was honorably discharged in October 1962.

Jon married Shery Winn on August 15, 1962 in Jackson, MN. They made their home in Spencer, IA, where he worked with his father as a carpenter running their business, Harrold Construction. He eventually took over the business and ran it until retirement in 2003. Jon was a fun-loving guy always ready to pull a prank or tell a funny story. He could remember all the good jokes for laughs. In his younger years he loved to hunt, golf and metal detect. In his later years he collected BB guns and went to many antique auctions and flea markets in search of them, he enjoyed listening to 50’s music, doodling geometric patterns on paper with colored pencils and meeting his friends at American Classic Café for breakfast. In the summer he could always be found on the mower keeping the grass mowed to perfection.

Jon passed away on Monday April 21st, 2025 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law; Eric Helland, brother-in-law; Dennis Diamond, and a nephew; Jason Harrold.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Shery Harrold of Spencer IA, daughter; Lisa Helland of Colorado Springs CO, two grandchildren: Kelsey Helland of Seattle, WA and Christopher Helland of Colorado Springs, CO, brother; Jerry Harrold of Colorado Springs, CO, sister-in-law; Permilla Diamond and family of Humboldt, MN, other relatives and many friends.
