John Stanley Cross, the son of George and Dollie (Teachout) Cross was born June 18, 1930, on a farm north of Webb, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the Webb area where he received his education, graduating from Webb High School. John accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 12. In 1946, at the age of 16, he traveled with a shipload of horses to Poland, and on the trip home, he and the veterinarian held church services two times each week for their group. John joined the Marines on February 27, 1951, and served until his discharge date of February 26, 1954.
John was united in marriage to Belle Marie Caylor on January 2, 1954, in Long Beach, California. They returned to Iowa and have lived on a farm northeast of Webb ever since. He farmed for 35 years, and was then a District Sales Manager for Pfister Hybrid Seed Corn Company for eight years until his retirement at the age of 66 on July 1, 1996. John was a member of the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer, Iowa, where he served as an Elder years ago. He was also a life member of the Legion and VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and traveling.
On Monday, November, 16, 2015, John passed away at his home at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Claudia Erin Cross; granddaughter, Amy; brother, Robert C. Cross; and sister, Vesta Fortune.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Belle of Webb, IA; daughters: Valerie Cross Fleetwood and husband, Mark of Brewer, ME, Cheryl Greenawalt and husband, Bill of Everett, PA, and Georgianna Persons and husband, John of Galena, OH; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Hope Stowers of O'Fallon, IL, and Faith Fogelman of Webb, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
