John Muetzel

     John Burton Muetzel, the son of Donald and Evelyn (Zitterich) Muetzel, was born January 20, 1949 in Spencer, Iowa.  His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1967.  After his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge.

     After his military service, he returned to Spencer and married Sandra Marie Huber on September 21, 1968, in Spencer, IA.  After their marriage he worked for Goodyear Tire and Hy-Line International.  In the 1970’s, he founded Muetzel Electric, which he owned and operated for many years.  John was responsible for all of the electrical work at the Clay County Fair for many years.  He was also on the Electrical Board of Supervisors for the area Electrical contractors.  They moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 1986 and he worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1989.  John enjoyed woodworking and made many projects for friends and family, which still provides memories to this day.  He also enjoyed making remote control Lego trucks and had an extensive collection of guns and firearms.

     John passed away at Banner University Medical Center   in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the age of 73.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Meyer, and his special puppy dog Sadie, who was his faithful companion by his side for 15 years.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandy of Gilbert, AZ; 2 daughters: Melissa Celaya of Mesa, AZ and her children, Matthew Ludwig and Kaylee Celaya and Stephanie (James) Persely of Maricopa, AZ; 3 sons: Jose (Brianna) Mercedes of Maricopa, AZ, Alexzander (Trinity) Mercedes of Phoenix, AZ & Dylan (Tanisha) Hunsaker of Mesa, AZ; three great grandchildren: Jaidyn, Thaddeus “EJ” and Royce; one brother, Ronald (Barb) Muetzel of Spencer, IA; one sister, Denese Muetzel of Bellevue, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
