Jerry Dean Koerselman, 77, of Peterson, Iowa (formerly of Sheldon, Iowa), passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025. Jerry was born to Anthony (Tony) and Julia (Judy)(Brinkman) Koerselman on November 1, 1948, in Sheldon, Iowa. Jerry was raised in Sheldon, Iowa where he graduated from Sheldon Community School in 1967. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army in February 1968 and served until September 1971. He was stationed in Vietnam from January 1969 - January 1970. Upon discharge, he was united in marriage to Gloria Van Aalsburg. To this union two children were born, a son, Troy, and a daughter, Cherish. Jerry and Gloria made their home in Sheldon, Iowa, where Jerry spent many years working for Arnold Motor Supply, Ken Karr Ford, and then Ron Drenkow Motors until his retirement in 2019. In August of 2002, Gloria passed away from cancer. Jerry was united in marriage to Jeannie Selk in September 2003. With their marriage brought the blessing of a blended family, which Jerry wholeheartedly embraced, gaining much more family that he truly loved. They enjoyed many happy years together living in Sheldon, Iowa, and then moving to Peterson, Iowa, upon his retirement.

 Jerry was known for being a kind man with a really big heart. He loved his family more than anything and he always enjoyed time with his kids and grandkids. Jerry was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. Among his family, Jerry was famous for his delicious grilled chicken. For many years he was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jerry enjoyed many years golfing. Through these memberships and organizations, Jerry established life long friendships. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeannie; son, Troy (Amy) Koerselman, daughter, Cherish (Dolan) Granstra; Jeannie’s children, Terry (Jolene) Selk, Deb (Bob Theulen) Selk, and Stephanie (Jon) Bang; grandchildren, Dallas (Jamie) Granstra, Drake (Kerrigan) Granstra, Lexi (fiancée TJ Snyder) Koerselman, and Jentzen Koerselman; Jeannie’s grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Selk, Luke (Shelbee) Selk, Max Gransow, Mason Schultz, Cassidy (Ryan) Heller, Austin (Paige) Selk, Colton (Kylie) Selk, and Eric Bang; great grandchildren, Hayden, Hudson, and Kohen Granstra; Jeannie’s great-grandchildren, Henley, Sadie, Zoey, and Weston Selk, Kanan Beckman, Steven Thompson, and Cameron and Riley Heller. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Ron (Jan) Koerselman, and sister, Lori (Tom) Cutsinger; sisters-in-law, Faith (Larry) Parmer, and Rosie Turner; brothers-in-law, Byron Hokenson, and Ken Fedders; and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Judy Koerselman; his first wife, Gloria Koerselman; an infant brother, Rodger (twin brother of Ron); sisters-in-law, Darlene Kimmel, Virginia Hokenson, and Crystal Fedders; and brothers-in-law, Roger Kimmel, and Ernie Turner; as well as dear extended family members. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church of Peterson, Iowa.
