Jermaine Mae Gadsby

May 1, 1936 — December 22, 2019

Suitland

Jermaine Gadsby, age 83, of Suitland, MD lived a full life.  She passed away peacefully on 12/22/19 as her earthly family gathered to celebrate Christmas with her, and is now in her eternal home with her Heavenly Father.  She was raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin as the oldest of six siblings and spent her early years helping her mother in the home.  She excelled in school and went on to graduate from Stout University and then Iowa State University in Ames with a Masters Degree in Home Economics.  She met her husband, Dwight, while in school in Ames and later traveled with him to Italy when he received a Fulbright scholarship to study there.  They later moved to the Washington D.C. area where they raised their son, Winston, and daughter, Sandy.  Jermaine worked as a teacher specializing in home economics, and later was employed in tax preparation and census work.  Jermaine was a passionate supporter of her childrens' education and volunteered extensively with parent teacher organizations, the Girl Scouts, and her local church.  She was a skilled seamstress and sewed her own wedding dress, as well as clothing for her family, and later went on to sew several family quilts.  Her hands were always busy with crocheting or needlework projects.

Jermaine is survived by her husband, her two children and their spouses, her grandson, and her five siblings and their spouses.

Special thanks to the staff at Sunrise of Oakton, VA, and Capital Caring Hospice.  We are deeply saddened by Jermaine's passing but we find comfort that she is now at peace.
