Jennifer Vivian Mitchell

October 13, 1946 — March 28, 2026

Spencer

Jennifer Vivian Mitchell, the daughter of Ira Dale and Irma Lee (Culpepper) Davis was born on Oct. 13, 1946, in New London, CT.

As a young child, the family moved around a lot due to her dad’s job as an accountant. They lived in several communities throughout southwest Iowa. Following graduation from Mapleton High School, she worked as nurse’s aide in Onawa.

She met Loral Francis Mitchell at Bishop’s Cafeteria in Sioux City. Jennifer worked as a coffee server and Loral was a baker there. She was swept off her feet in 1967 and they married on March 23, 1968 in Mapleton, IA. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux City, the Cherokee area and in Harlan before settling in Spencer in 1971. While living in Sioux City, she took classes at St. Joseph and also at Nettleton Business College.

Throughout Jennifer’s life, she applied her homemaking skills in various jobs around the Spencer area while she raised her three children.

She enjoyed baking, reading from her collection of old books along with watching nostalgic movies and television shows. She had a great appreciation for American History and has been involved in politics. She loved to travel and has enjoyed very memorable trips out West with Loral and their dog, Wags. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her.

Whenever she traveled, she brought God and her faith with her. She also kept multiple Bibles at home and even when her health declined, she attended church in her own way through local broadcasts.

Near the end of her life she talked about her faith frequently as a way to assure her family that her next destination would be one of joy.

Jennifer passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loral in 2010; her parents, Ira “Dale” and Irma Lee (Culpepper) Davis; her brother, Dale; sister Annabelle (Paul) Bumstead; her brothers in law Russell George Mitchell, Clinton Mitchell, Phil Hane; her sisters-in-law, Marion, Theresa and Rita; her aunts, uncles, extended family and other loved ones.
