Jay Dean Prange

Spencer

     Jay Dean Prange, the son of Gerrit and Esther (Vander Schaaf) Prange, was born on June 15, 1945 in Nebraska.  He attended school in Sheldon and Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1963.  As a child, Jay spent summers with Dick and Marie Minen working on the farm in Firth, NE.  Upon graduating high school, he joined the Army as a mechanic.  He was honorably discharged in 1966.

     Jay met Carolyn Westphal in Spencer where they were married on February 18, 1967 at Hope Reformed Church.  They lived in Spencer all their married life except for about 10 years when they lived in the Norwalk, CA area.  Jay was a truckdriver.  He drove for Artesia Ice plant in California.  When they returned to Iowa, he drove for the elevator and Hy-line until he retired.  Jay enjoyed camping with his wife, working with his hands and most importantly, spending time with his family.

     Jay passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the age of 74.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents; mother-in-law, Elsie Westphal; brother-in-law, Dick Roos and sister-in-law, Marlys DeWolf.

     Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Mike and Cheri of Spencer, IA and Brian and Angie of Fostoria, IA; grandchildren: M.J. and Tiarra of Athens, AL, Matthew John of Iowa City, IA, Heather and fiance Ty Hoffman of Royal, IA and Keegan Mitchell of Fostoria, IA; great grandchildren: Aajon and Aaryah of Athens, AL, Taneisha, Braxton and Joslyn of Royal, IA and Nuala of Eugene, OR; sister Arlys and John of Ankeny, IA; many other relatives and friends.

SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
