James I. Stienstra

James (Jim) I. Stienstra, son of Ivan & Lois Stienstra, was born on November 27, 1951 in Orange City, Iowa. Jim received his early education in Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1970.  He later attended Iowa State University where he played basketball and graduated in 1974. He received his CPA license in 1975 and began practicing as an accountant.

 

Jim went on to meet Charlene Thompson when they both worked at Shoppers Supply. They married in Spencer in 1985. The couple was married for 26 years. In 1986 he adopted Char's son, Chris, and the couple had their daughter, Katie. They moved to Eagle Grove in 1987, where their daughter Katie would pass away at 20 months of age. The family moved to Mitchell, South Dakota in 1990 and had their second daughter, Laura, in 1993. The Stienstra family eventually landed in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2002. Jim was dedicated to his career as an accountant, he also enjoyed coaching his children's sports teams. Jim moved back to Spencer in 2012 and reconnected with old friends.

 

Jim passed away on July 4th, 2021 at his home in Spencer at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ivan & Lois Stienstra, and his daughter, Katie Stienstra.

 

Jim is survived by his son and daughter, Chris Stienstra and Laura Stienstra of Sioux Falls, SD, his brother, David Stienstra (Kathy) of Terre Haute, IN, a nephew, Matthew Stienstra of Seattle, WA, and several friends.

 

VISITATION
A visitation will be held at the lodge at Oneota Park (420 10th Ave SE) in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, July 30th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with family present.
