Gina Lea Ean

January 9, 1957 — February 22, 2023

Spencer

Gina Lea (Johnson) Ean was born and raised in Spencer, Iowa.  She was the fifth and youngest child whose parents were Marvin and Beverly Johnson, and was the youngest of five children following Linda, Toni, Cody, and her brother Jan.
Gina went to numerous elementary schools in Spencer, Iowa and graduated from Spencer High School in 1975. She was a very good student and excelled in both basketball and track.  She was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
Gina worked nearly 35 years at the Clay County Auditor’s Office.  She retired from the courthouse and went to work for her sister, Cody at Security Land Title as well as being a Teachers’ Assistant at Fairview School.  She finished her working career at Clay County Abstract.  She retired in January of 2021.
Gina had a passion for baking and cooking.  She was excellent at both.  When her brother, Jan, came to town she hosted him in her house and always provided him a scrumptious meal or dessert.
Gina had a huge, caring heart.  She always had a smile on her face and her humor was contagious.  She was always willing to give to others before thinking or caring about herself.  Gina cooked mini meals for our mom Beverly for many years before her passing in April of 2019.
She dearly loved her son Jason Alan Roberts, and her three granddaughters Jordan Roberts, Morgan Roberts, and Peytan Roberts dearly.  Gina enjoyed watching the girls grow up as they lived next door to her over many years.
Gina also had an interest in gardening, planting flowers, going on walks, watching television, riding her bike, and falling asleep in her chair.
Gina loved eating out and sharing time with her sister Toni.  They were sidekicks as the years went by. Gina’s favorite places to eat were the Prime Rib and Taco House.
She enjoyed summer evenings at her sister Cody’s home.  They would sit around the backyard fire pit and enjoyed the evenings telling each other stories, and reminiscing about days gone by.
She always looked to her older sister Linda for motherly advise after the passing of our mother.   She knew she could always rely on Linda due to her common sense, level-headedness and a willing to lend an ear to hear and listen to whatever was on Gina’s mind.
Gina always emulated her brother, Jan and followed in his shadow growing up.  She really cherished the times when her brother came back to Spencer for a visit.  She provided him a place to stay and always was making him his favorite food and goodies.  They always had endless conversations, and she knew how thankful her brother was for her being such a good host.
The family would like to thank all doctors and caregivers at both the Spencer Municipal Hospital and the St. Luke Nursing Home.  Their care for our sister, Gina was encouraging, reinforcing, positive and upbeat.  This helped our sister endure her illness to the end.
We also want to recognize and thank Reverend Tim Frasher of Grace United Methodist Church who prayed with Gina and administered her last rites.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin, and Beverly (Fasbender) Johnson.  She is survived by her son Jason Lee Roberts of Spencer, Iowa, her three granddaughters Jordan Roberts of Florida, Morgan Roberts of Chicago, Illinois and Peytan Roberts of Spencer, Iowa, her sisters Linda (Alan) Miller of Spencer, Iowa, Toni Corcoran of Spencer, Iowa, Cody Slawson of Spencer, Iowa, and her brother, Jan Johnson (Anne) of Walford, Iowa and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
