Gertrude "Trudy" Marie Wedel

    Gertrude “Trudy” Marie Wedel was born April 5, 1928 in Milford, IA to John and Josephine (Uhlenkamp) Reiman. Trudy was the youngest in a family of four girls and two boys. She grew up on a farm south east of Milford, where she helped her dad with the chores including feeding the pigs and caring for the chickens. She graduated from Milford high school in 1946.

     Trudy went to work for radio station KICD in 1951. This is where she met her future husband Jack Wedel, who joined the station in 1952. Although Jack failed to show for their first date, she forgave him and they married in July 1953.

     They had two children, Mark and Shelley. While the kids were young, she worked off and on at the radio station. Jack died in 1982 and she then went back to work as a bookkeeper at RC Hardware. Later she became the bookkeeper for NW IA Urologists for more than 25 years, until her retirement at the age of 80.

     Trudy enjoyed playing bridge beginning in the 60s with her friends the Kliegl’s and Kulsrud’s and up until a few years ago with her bridge club friends. She would play bridge all day, given the opportunity. Trudy also spent hours quilting. All the grandkids have a quilt made by her. She was an amazing role model. Her strength, independence, courage, and calm classy demeanor will always be remembered.

     Trudy passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the age of 91.  Trudy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack in 1982; 2 sisters: Loretta Fogarty and Clara Mohr and two brothers: Clarence Reiman and Bernard Reiman; one son-in-law, Curt Anson.

     Left to cherish her memory are her son, Mark (Susan) Wedel of Spencer, IA and her daughter, Shelley Anson of Kansas City, MO; 7 grandchildren, Molly (Todd) Radigan, Amy (Doug) Petersen, Lindsay (Jamie) Grosse, Douglas (Tara) Wedel, Kristen Anson (Andrew) Sara (Jonathan) McAfee, and Matt Anson (Victoria); 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Montag of Nora Springs, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
