George Russell Koenig, 91 years old was born January 2, 1929 in Blair, Nebraska.
George spent his childhood years growing up in Blair, NE. In 1943, when George was 14, his parents William P. & Ingery Koenig moved their family to Northwest Iowa to start a new farm. George attended school in Gillet Grove, IA while helping the family establish the farming business. On June 4, 1950 George married Lois Darlene Davis and they settled on the family farm east of Gillett Grove.
Over the next 7 decades, George remained on the farm where he started a family, farmed the land, and raised livestock. During that time four children were born: Terry Jo, William Gerald, Dale Russell and George Roy. George’s love and passion for farming was known by many. He was well respected within the farming community, helping many hone their own craft in nurturing the land. In addition to farming, George enjoyed playing cards with family & friends, going pheasant hunting and visiting with those who stopped by the farm. Later in life, George’s favorite farm visits were the ones from his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He enjoyed catching up and listening to where life took them while watching the great grandchildren play. George would always laugh and smile at their zest for life.
